Amazon wants to help you check your list twice with the launch of their new Amazon Santa app.

The app is specifically designed for the Kindle Fire and the iPad.  It enables your child to browse through the app and create their own Christmas wish list to share with friends and family.

The listings are tailored towards children as they feature kid-friendly movies, music, video games, books and, of course, toys.  I did not see a socks, sweaters and underwear category.  Sorry grandma.

This is from Amazon’s press release:

“Sometimes Santa can use help sorting out what gifts to give everyone and this new app makes it easy and fun for kids to create their perfect Wish List,” said Sam Hall, director of Amazon Mobile. “We’ve selected more than five-hundred thousand of the hottest kid-friendly holiday gifts and made it fun, easy and intuitive for kids to find exactly what they want. The Amazon Santa app is also a great way for parents to spend some quality time with their kids and help make certain there’s a smile Christmas morning.”

The design of the app is absolutely gorgeous.  Once logged in you can create wishlists specifically tailored for each child.  You can even add your child’s picture so it is easier for them to select their profile.

Once inside the app you and your child can select which category they would like to browse.  What I find curious is that some of the listings are much larger than the other ones.  I am not sure why that is.  There is no disclosure from Amazon as to why they chose to do this.

The app is tailored for children, but I would love to see a similar application for the rest of us.  Perhaps this is Amazon’s test run for a universal wish list application.

The app is only available for the Kindle Fire and iPad.  There is no version available for smartphones.  It is not available for Android tablets, which I find curious being that the Amazon Kindle Fire runs a version of the Android OS.  You can download the app by clicking here.

Is this something you would use?  Let us know in the comments.
