iFamily: iPhones become expensive toys

This guest post is from Jonathan Iguina, founder of ConsiderUp.com

I woke up this morning and began to get ready to take my five year old to school this morning.  As I am running out the door (late as usual), I suddenly realized I was missing my iPhone.  I quickly returned into my house and began searching endlessly but, to no avail I returned back to the car empty handed.

Thoughts of missing calls, text messages, emails, facebook messages, and twitter messages ran through my mind.  Once I returned home, I retraced my steps and was still unable to find my iPhone.

Suddenly it dawned on me!  Who would want to use my iPhone?  Not my wife, she has her own.  Immediately I thought about my five year old. She has access to all of our gadgets.  She uses my iPad, iPhone, and she has claimed exclusive rights to the iPod Touch 4G.  However, there is something about the call feature that makes her want the iPhone over the other devices.  My daughter has an affinity for texting and since she cannot do it from the other gadgets she insists on using our iPhones.

Once I realized that she would have been the one to misplace my iPhone, I headed towards her room.   I pulled the comforter off the bed and sure enough my iPhone comes flying out.

She woke up early, came into my room, took my iPhone and went to bed browsing the select apps.  I was not upset, it made me chuckle.  It also made me realize how technology has been drastically altering the way our children play.  At this point both my daughters rather play on the Team Umizoomi or Angry Birds application rather than Barbie Dolls.

How about your children, what do they prefer, toys or apps?
