As you all know there is a new addition in the family. Vivienne Jean was born Dec. 20th at 7’ish in the morning. She weighed about 7 lbs. even and was 19 inches long.
The past month has been a whirlwind. Sleep is a luxury in our house since it seems like she wants to be held all the damn time. The wife and I are still getting used to being responsible for two children, but that’s another post for another time.
Back to the sleep thing… I have never been a white noise guy, but wifey is all about her white noise machine. She has it going full blast while she tries to catch some Z’s as I take first shift and get caught up on Supernatural via Netflix (don’t judge me) in our guest room.
Vivienne’s been so gassy and borderline colicky that she’s been wide-eyed and wide-mouthed as she screams at me well into the wee-hours of the morning. I got tired of holding her for hours, rocking and making shushing sounds. I felt like an extra in The Walking Dead. I had enough, so I thought, “Eh, why not try a white noise app?”
I tried quite a few, but the one that I liked most was Sleep Pillow. I tried the free version first. It was terrific, but it didn’t have the actual white noise available through the free version, so I paid $1.99 for the full version. Considering I paid $35 for an actual white noise machine for the wife, I figured $1.99 was a bargain. It was also an iPhone/iPad app, so I had it for my iPad as well for when I take the leap to the Samsung Galaxy Note II somewhere down the road.
So, now across the hall I have one machine going and I’m being held hostage by a 4 week old in another room with a machine going.
Man, seriously, the kid was screaming at me. I launched that white noise app, turned up the volume and she was done. Minutes later she was drooling in my arms. It was like magic. One dollar and ninety-nine cent magic.
