Time’s running out

To say 2012 has been an odd year would be an understatement.  It was a year full of promise.  I got my feet wet with the new job.  Wifey and I are expecting.  We decided to do a small addition on the house.

It was definitely a year of promise, but I am not quite sure where things went off track.

  • Our new baby is due in two months.  I haven’t finished up the nursery yet.
  • My contract job is coming to a close soon.  I do not have another job lined up just yet.
  • Our little 140 square foot addition was supposed to take 90 days and we are almost 9 months into it and are facing yet more delays.

The pressure is on.

Not sure what I could have done to salvage this year, but I know one thing is for sure — I’m ready for 2013.  I am just ready to see what direction our lives will be headed in.  Will I continue to work from home?  Will I go back to working out of a cubicle?  Will this addition ever be done?  When the addition is finally completed, will I go back to loving my house again or will I continue to resent the shit out of it?

Being able to work out of my home has been a blessing.  I am not a religious man and I don’t use the word blessing very often, if at all, but I truly feel this is an appropriate use of the word.  I wouldn’t be opposed to going back to working in a traditional office environment. Quite frankly, I think the dogs are sick of me hanging around so much.  If anything, I know I need to work on getting back my home office in some capacity.  The home remodel has turned our layout upside down.

I received news today that there is yet another delay on the remodel.  We broke ground in February on this thing.  It was supposed to take 90 days from breaking ground to completion and here we are almost 9 months into it.  I set deadline after deadline without any of them being met.  I complained to the state’s regulators and received no response from them.  The whole process has been a complete clusterfuck.  My advice, never do business with people you think of as friends.  It will bite you in the rear every single time.

And now we have little Vivienne on the way.  December 20th is the scheduled date for the C-section.  Terri, Carmen and I are very excited about the new one coming into our lives.  Carmencita is more than pumped to be a big sister.  We have been prepping her this entire time.  Terri and I on the other hand feel a little less prepared, but I think we will manage just fine.  After all, we made out okay with our first one.

Yeah, there’s a ton going on right now.  I’m just ready for something, anything to finally be sorted out.

In the meantime, I’ll continue working on the house where I can.  I will continue to work hard through the end of my contract, get the nursery together, clean out the clutter, freshen up paint that needs touched up thanks to clumsy contractors and work on my garage so I can either get an office out there or my home gym.  I just need to keep myself preoccupied so I don’t explode.
